The CEPOLIS research department is based at the Bavarian University of Applied Sciences for the Public Service – Department of Policing (BayHfoD). CEPOLIS – the <\/span><\/span>Center of Excellence for Police and Security Research <\/span><\/span>– has been involved in various national and European projects since 2012 and <\/span><\/span> conducts research, <\/span>development<\/span> and innovation. CEPOLIS is committed to optimising police procedures and strengthening public safety. Scientific exchange is promoted through close cooperation with research institutions, universities, police authorities and companies in Germany and abroad. The Cyprus Police (CYPOL) was established under Article 130 of the 1960 Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus, which initially defined separate forces: “POLICE” for urban areas and “GENDARMERIES” for rural areas. These forces merged in 1964 to form the Cyprus Police Force, and in 2004, Law 73(I) officially changed the name to Cyprus Police.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Operating under the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, Cyprus Police is tasked with maintaining law and order, preserving peace, preventing and detecting crime, and apprehending offenders, while ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights. The institution employs over 620 staff members, hosts 170 doctoral students, and welcomes 200 visiting researchers.
